UVM - Torrey Hall Construction Progress

The exterior renovation underway at UVM’s historic Torrey Hall suffered a major setback when the roof caught fire on August 3, 2017. The main building suffered serious roof and interior water damage. Thanks to the Burlington Fire Department and some recently purchased storage cabinets, the majority of the priceless Pringle Herbarium and Zadock Thompson animal collections, housed in the building, was not damaged by the fire. After a couple weeks of clean out and abatement, the scheduled masonry and window restoration, exterior painting, and roofing at the east building resumed, while the design for rebuilding the main roof and interior renovation is underway. Once located on the UVM green, Torrey Hall was built in 1862, moved to its current location in 1895, and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
